New Delhi: After her Hollywood debut with Fast and Furious 7, Deepika Padukone
appeared opposite Van Diesel for xXx: The
Return of Xander Cage. A shortly received darling of Hollywood, Padukone
was almost ready and was auditioning for her second Hollywood movie- The Mummy Reboot, featuring Tom Cruise
and Sofia Boutella in lead roles.
Report is that earlier another Bollywood actress
Huma Qureshi had auditioned for the same role opposite Tom Cruise. “Huma has
recently auditioned for the third part of the successful franchise starring
Hollywood star Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella playing the lead antagonist,” an
official statement by Huma’s spokesperson asserted.
None of the Bollywood actresses received a positive
message from The Mummy team. However,
an entertainment website first disclosed the news of Deepika’s rejection from
the cast of the upcoming Tom Cruise film. “They are looking at other options.
Even if Deepika doesn’t make the cut, the very fact that she was in the running
for an important role in a Tom Cruise starrer is quite a high in itself,” the
website said.
According to reports, The
Mummy is one of the many projects planned by Universal
Pictures in an effort to create an ‘interconnected universe’ for classics like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible
Man, The Bride Of Frankenstein,
and Vampire Hunter Van Helsing.
