Nashville: The body of Jerry Greer, the 19-year-old son of country singer and outdoorsman Craig Morgan, was recovered Monday evening, July 11th, following a boating accident on Sunday. The recently high-school graduate went missing on July 10th while tubing with friends on Kentucky Lake near Waverly, Tennessee.
According to reports, Greer collided with another person on the water and, although wearing a life jacket, failed to resurface. Boats searched throughout Sunday night for Greer, but were unable to locate the teen. Morgan’s publicist confirmed his son’s death in a statement, “It is with deep sadness that I am confirming the passing of Jerry Greer (19), son of country music entertainer Craig Morgan and wife Karen Greer. The Humphreys County (TN) Sheriff’s Department recovered his body this evening after a search that began Sunday following a boating accident on Kentucky Lake in Tennessee. A 2016 graduate of Dickson County High School, Jerry planned to play football for Marshall University in the fall.”
In June, Craig released his latest album A Whole Lot More to Me and debuted the new season of his hunting and adventure series Craig Morgan: All Access Outdoors on the Outdoor Channel this month. An episode that featured Morgan and son Jerry on location in Hawaii aired last week.
Since the accident on Sunday, Morgan, a U.S. Army veteran, has received the support of the country music community. Kelsea Ballerini, his labelmate at Black River Entertainment, the Oak Ridge Boys, Chris Janson and the Grand Ole Opry have all tweeted words of encouragement and condolences.
Jerry is survived by sister Aly, brothers Kyle and Wyatt, her mother Karen and his father.
