US-based Indian actress Freida Pinto seemingly
is all set to promote women empowerment in the entertainment industry at the 69th
Cannes Film Festival, scheduled to take place from May 11 -21, 2016. The first project of the non-profit production
company, ‘We Do It Together’ (WDIT) works to establish equality and empowerment
for the women in the industry, plans to launch Pinto at Cannes.
Reports are that Freida is one among the
star-studded advisory board that includes Jessica Chastain, Juliette Binoche,
singer Queen Latifah, and film director Catherine Hardwicke. Few more famed
member of ‘We Do It Together’, are- director Hany Abu-Assad, actress Zhang
Ziyi, director Amma Asante, director Marielle Heller, director Katia Lund,
director Malgorzata Szumowska, actress Alysia Reiner, National Humanities Medal
honoree Henry Louis Gates, and director Haifaa Al-Mansour.
‘We Do It Together’ works as an objective to ‘boost
women empowerment’ and also to produce TV series and films that focuses on the
same. Apart from their focus to equalize women empowerment, WDIT says that
‘they hopes to partner with male and female industry professionals to create a
slate of gender-led projects, and to generate opportunities for women,’
according to sources.
Pinto, the 32-year-old Indian actress has set a
benchmark with her acting in Slumdog Millionnaire
(2008), an Academy award winning crime-drama, directed by Danny Boyle. Though
rightly termed as a ‘one film wonder’, Freida was not seen in any significant
roles and films after her debut appearance. Therefore, her promotional appearance
in Cannes is expected to make her help from fading away.
