Cannes to Witness Slumdog-Girl Freida Pinto Promoting Women Empowerment


US-based Indian actress Freida Pinto seemingly is all set to promote women empowerment in the entertainment industry at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, scheduled to take place from May 11 -21, 2016. The first project of the non-profit production company, ‘We Do It Together’ (WDIT) works to establish equality and empowerment for the women in the industry, plans to launch Pinto at Cannes.
Reports are that Freida is one among the star-studded advisory board that includes Jessica Chastain, Juliette Binoche, singer Queen Latifah, and film director Catherine Hardwicke. Few more famed member of ‘We Do It Together’, are- director Hany Abu-Assad, actress Zhang Ziyi, director Amma Asante, director Marielle Heller, director Katia Lund, director Malgorzata Szumowska, actress Alysia Reiner, National Humanities Medal honoree Henry Louis Gates, and director Haifaa Al-Mansour.


‘We Do It Together’ works as an objective to ‘boost women empowerment’ and also to produce TV series and films that focuses on the same. Apart from their focus to equalize women empowerment, WDIT says that ‘they hopes to partner with male and female industry professionals to create a slate of gender-led projects, and to generate opportunities for women,’ according to sources.
Pinto, the 32-year-old Indian actress has set a benchmark with her acting in Slumdog Millionnaire (2008), an Academy award winning crime-drama, directed by Danny Boyle. Though rightly termed as a ‘one film wonder’, Freida was not seen in any significant roles and films after her debut appearance. Therefore, her promotional appearance in Cannes is expected to make her help from fading away.
