Washington
DC: On Saturday, actor Priyanka Chopra dined with the US President Barack Obama
at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner .
She
posted a picture of her with the Obamas on Instagram today and wrote, “Lovely
to meet the very funny and charming @barackobama and the beautiful @michelleobama.
Thank you for a lovely evening. Cannot wait to start working on your girls
education program.”
Dressed
in a dazzling black number by Zuhair Murad, paired with minimal jewellery by
Sara Weinstock, Priyanka sure left a lasting impression on the minds of all
present at the occasion.
The
33-year-old former Miss World and singer, who is currently shooting in the US
for the big-screen Baywatch reboot, was
invited to the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner with the US President
Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama.
Among
the other invitees were film and television performers Helen Mirren, Jared
Leto, Bryan Cranston, Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Rachel McAdams, and Tom
Hiddleston.
The
2016 White House Correspondents' dinner, which was President Obama’s last in
office, was hosted by comedian Larry Wilmore. The non-profit White House
Correspondent’' Association, whose members include the reporters, producers,
camera operators and other journalists regularly covering the White House, traditionally
hosts this annual dinner to raise money for journalism scholarships.
The
education programme that Priyanka alluded to is Michelle’s initiative and is
called ‘Let Girls Learn’. It aims to empower 62 million girls worldwide, who at
present do not go to school, so that they can get their education. The US
President is also a passionate supporter of the cause. Launched in 2015, it funds community girls' education projects like girls' leadership camps and school bathrooms, educating girls in conflict zones; and address poverty, HIV, and other issues that keep girls out of school.
