Five-year-old Murtaz Ahmadi, who became the
social media sensation earlier this year, escaped from Afghanistan and had
appealed to the UN Refugee Agency after fleeing the country. Little
Ahmadi was ‘pictured’ wearing a shirt made with plastic bag, forced the Barcelona
superstar Lionel Messi to send a signed jersey and a football.
Reports are that Ahmadi’s family has received
continuous telephone threats and ‘menacing Taliban letter’. His father Mohammad
Arif Ahmadi also said that his family is now settled in Pakistan now, in the
city of Quetta, ‘hoping for a better life.’ “Life became a misery for us,” the rattled
father added.
According to reports, Ahmadi’s family did not pay
much attention to the threats first. But a letter from the Taliban with
objections for Murtaza’s interest on soccer forced the family to leave their
country. “That was the main reason I left my homeland. I sold all my belongings
and brought my family out of Afghanistan to save my son’s life as well as the
lives of the rest of the family,” the father asserted.
Earlier this year, on February 25, Messi sent a
signed jersey to his little fan. Also, the goodwill partner of UNICEF, Messi
promised to meet Ahamadi either at Spain or at Afghanistan. But none of the
options worked out, reports said. Also,
the family had applied for immigration and asked UNHCR to investigate their
application.
